Should I pre-pay my car rental or pay on arrival?

Cruise Travel Centre works with a number of independent wholesalers that have special rates from all the leading car rental companies worldwide. As a result, when you reserve and pay for your car hire through Cruise Travel Centre, you secure the most competitive rate available. Moreover, you make the payment in Australian dollars upfront, which means you are aware of the exact cost, irrespective of your travel destination, thereby minimizing the effects of any changes in currency exchange rates.

Are there any change fees, cancellation fees or non-collection fees?

Any changes you make to your booking prior to collecting the vehicle need to be processed with Cruise Travel Centre. Contact your Cruise Specialist or visit a store.

Any amendments to your booking are subject to supplier availability and will be repriced to the current rate at the time of the change request, regardless of the change. Conditions apply.

For bookings cancelled prior to collection date, a cancellation fee will apply. In some cases, additional supplier fees may also be applicable.

For bookings cancelled on or after collection the date, a cancellation fee will apply, and any supplier specific fees. This fee applies but is not limited to:

    • Bookings cancelled after the reserved collection time.
    • If you have failed to collect the vehicle by the confirmed time and your booking is considered a non-collection by the supplier.
    • Rentals denied due to not providing a full, valid, physical driver’s license in the main driver’s name.
    • Rentals denied due to not providing a valid, physical credit card in the main driver’s name.
    • Rentals denied due to insufficient funds for the security deposit.
    • Failing to provide an international driver’s permit (when applicable) in conjunction with your full driver’s license.

Supplier non-collection fees vary and in some cases are 100% non-refundable. Please ask your Cruise Specialist for further information regarding non-collection fees.

Can I request a particular car model?

No, specific models cannot be guaranteed. All reservations are made on vehicle style and size, such as ‘Intermediate or Small SUV’. Models shown online and on the voucher are examples only and a similar vehicle may be supplied.

Why do I need Travel Insurance when the car is already insured?

In the majority of countries, an ‘excess’ is typically charged in the event of a vehicle accident or theft. This is the responsibility of the person renting the car. However, numerous travel insurance plans now include coverage for this car rental excess up to a certain limit. Consequently, if a, excess is charged, you have the option to claim it through your travel insurance policy.

Can I return the hire vehicle early?

What do I need to pick up my car?

What do I need to pick up my car?

To pick up your car rental you will need a reservation voucher from Cruise Travel Centre. A reservation voucher contains specific information needed by the car rental supplier at time of pick up. The main driver must present a full driver's license and a valid credit card at the time of collection. For prestige & luxury vehicles, an additional credit card may be required. Refer to the voucher Terms & Conditions for details. Digital cards are generally not accepted for any rentals, so the main driver must always present a physical driver's license and physical credit card at the time of collection.

Can I use my digital driver’s license to collect a car?

No, digital drivers licenses are not accepted for any rentals outside of Australia (however we suggest you have a physical license). The main driver must always present a physical driver’s license to collect the car. If you cannot produce the physical driver’s license at time of collection, you may not be able to collect the car and a non-collection fee may apply.

Are debit cards accepted for the security bond on arrival?

Are debit cards accepted for the security bond on arrival?

Can I collect the car if the reservation voucher and the credit card that will be used for the security bond at time of collection are under different names?

No, you won’t be able to collect the car and a non-collection fee may apply. The main driver listed on the reservation voucher must match the vali credit card presented at time of collection.

What is an International Driving Permit?

An International Driving Permit (IDP) is proof that you hold a valid driver’s licence in your home country at the date of issue of the IDP. This should be carried with your Australian driver’s licence when you rent a car overseas. It is a very useful travel document and is required or recommended for many countries when hiring a motor vehicle. Refer to the Terms & Conditions when booking online, or your voucher Terms & Conditions.

Do I require an International Driving Permit?

Not all countries require you to have an International Driving Permit (IDP). It is a requirement in several European countries, and it is strongly recommended if you are planning to travel to a country where English is not the dominant language.

Do I need to return the car full of fuel?

Car Rental rates do not generally include fuel costs. Upon pick-up, rental vehicles are typically provided with a full petrol tank (exceptions may apply). It is recommended that you refill the tank before returning the vehicle and keep the receipts to avoid any refuelling fees. Certain car rental companies might propose a pre-paid fuel scheme, which involves a fixed charge irrespective of the fuel level when you return the vehicle. Please note that if you opt for this scheme, no refunds will be issued for any differential.

How can I obtain a copy of my car hire voucher?

Contact your Cruise Specialist or visit a store.
