Autumn Tranquility in Alta

Arrive at the Alta airport and private transfer to the Arctic Wilderness Lodge and Sorrisniva. This new wilderness lodge is built on the bank of the internationally renowned Alta River in Norway’s high Arctic. All of the rooms have panoramic windows extending from the floor into the ceiling, maximizing the views of the adjacent river and Arctic wilderness as well as enabling viewing of Northern lights. Settle into your room and enjoy a drink in the new panoramic lounge before heading outside for a walk along the river.

After breakfast, head out to the Alta fjord where you will search for what some consider to be a prized delicacy. The experienced guide will let you in on local secrets and tell you stories revolving around the King Crab and history of the area. Return for lunch of King Crab at the Lavvu Restaurant.

Alta is located at the intersection of the sea and Finnmarksvidda. This geographic area has, since the Stone Age, been a meeting place for several indigenous people groups. They have built their common history and future to master the rugged arctic environment. Alta is a natural hub and stopping point in the Arctic region.

This morning you will meet your private guide for a perfect blend of history, art, and nature in Norway's Arctic gem. Explore the heart of Alta with visits to the Alta Museum where you will discover ancient rock carvings at this UNESCO World Heritage site. Visit the Northern Light Cathedral and the House of Salmon where you will learn about salmon fishing traditions.

Before returning to your accommodation, enjoy an included 2-course lunch in town including 1 beverage, coffee or tea.

This evening, join a Northern Lights hunt by car.

On this adventure you will explore the renowned Finnmark mountain plateau.
Within a wide open landscape you are bound to find wild blueberries and lingonberries, and if you're lucky you might even find a patch of what we like to call "Finnmark's gold", or more commonly known as cloudberry. Although this hike is relatively long (approximately 11km, 5.5hrs), the terrain is quite manageable. The locals recommend this hike since it is easily accessible, giving you a sense of exploration and adventure, as well as a sense of accomplishment as you admire the view of Northern Europe's Largest Canyon and the famous salmon fishing river - Alta River.

If you are there in late October, depending on the weather, the hike will change to the shorter waterfall hike.

After breakfast, transfer to the airport.
